Grammy Red Carpet of the Past:







As we all know, last night was the 2013 Grammy Awards. I've discussed some of the Red Carpet Who Wore What HERE on my blog and had a BLAST shooting my TV Guide Network 2013 Grammy Awards Fashion Wrap today with my very fun Gal Pals, host Ali Landry, hair Diva Tabatha Coffey and "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Kyle Richards.








But recently--as part of a TV Guide Network "special" Bonus--I shot this very fun show, where I took a look back at the remarkable
fashions that have made history on the Grammy Awards red carpet including these fearless ladies:

Nicole Kidman in Vera Wang Spring 2013: Nicole wore this Gold Lace Column Gown to last night's Grammy Awards from Vera Wang's recent Spring 2013 collection.



While it wasn't Nicole's night (she was there to support her hubby Keith Urban), I still wish she would have brought a bit more pizzaz to the Red Carpet. This dress is too similar to the gown she wore to last month's SAG Awards and that Vivienne Westwood Dress was MUCH better:

Kelly Rowland in Georges Chakra Haute Couture Spring 2013: Kelly was another one to defy "the memo" last night and wear a very revealing Black Crepe Gown with illusion insets and a sweeping illusion fall front skirt.



I thought this was one of the best dresses of the night and Kelly has never looked better. Although it was a very exposed and sexy dress, she was completely covered from every angle and she smartly kept her hair and make-up sweet and innocent to balance the extreme style of the gown.



Good job Kelly!

Jennifer Lopez wore Anthony Vaccarello Spring 2013 to last night's Grammy Awards. The "Queen" of Grammy dressing, Jennifer did not disappoint last night in this Black Silk Jersey, One Shoulder Gown with an EXTREMELY high slit.



 I would think the last person you would ever want to send a memo to on how to dress appropriately to the Grammy Red Carpet would be Miss JLo! Trust me huney, that memo is going in the trash!



Anthony Vaccarello is best known for dressing Anja Rubik (model in the above photo and former girlfriend of Maroon 5's Adam Levine) at the 2012 Met Ball in a similarly revealing white gown:


Needless to say, JLo knew exactly where to go when she wanted to make her latest Red Carpet statement. And I'm sure everyone would agree that JLo was much more successful than Anya.




While you might not always love what she wears on the Red Carpet, she know EXACTLY how to get everyone's attention and be talked about the next day. She is a master at statement making gowns!



She has an innate sense of knowing just what will get people talking about her the next day.



Update: I mistakenly stated that Anja was Adam Levine's ex-girlfriend. What I realized is that Anne V, who is the actual ex-girlfriend of Adam Levine, also looks like she wore Anthony Vaccarello to last year's Grammy Awards. You can see what I said about that HERE! And let's just say JLo was MUCH more successful than poor Anne V!

 

Adele chose to wear a Custom dress from the Valentino Haute Couture Spring 2013 Collection (the BEST couture collection of the season!). The dress was shortened to Cocktail length and the top section was lined in black.



While I am a big fan of Adele and Valentino, I can not get on board with this dress. While I like that Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli (the designer's of Valentino) shortened the dress and made it more of a bell shape, I think that they should have customized it even more. I feel that they tried to make a pre-designed dress work for Adele, instead of custom designing a dress that worked for her. I wish they would have defined her waist and used less of the lace. Also, by adding the black lining to the top of the dress it just made it heavier looking and took away the light quality the original had.




On a good note her hair and make-up are always flawless; and I love how she stays true to her vintage aesthetic.

Katy Perry wore Gucci Resort 2013 to last night's Grammy Awards and said that her inspiration was Priscilla Presley from the "Elvis Days". I see the reference with the hair and make-up, but that is one sexy Priscilla Presley. Maybe Priscilla Presley 2.0!





The minute I saw Katy on the Red Carpet I knew that the dress was NOT designed to be that revealing. After doing some quick research I remembered the dress from the Gucci 2013 Resort Collection on a VERY flat chested model. While I do prefer the dress on the model and worn the way it was designed, Katy is workin' it and she always chooses beautiful colors to wear against her skin.



She was just one of many women to defy the memo by CBS!

Florence Welch wore Givenchy Couture Fall 2013 to this years Grammy Awards. She said she has worn Givenchy on the Red Carpet for the last three Grammy Awards. Givenchy is designed by Riccardo Tisci and he slightly modified a dress he did back in 2009 for Florence.



Smartly, he changed the color to a beautiful emerald green that perfectly matched her eyes, and also lowered the neckline; although I think she could have pulled off the look either way. The play on the over-sized studs is a HUGE trend in fashion right now and he was smart to pull a dress from the archives that worked so well today.




She had a custom designed matching clutch and beautiful, unique rings that highlighted her perfectly manicured nails.



Florence was one of the best dressed of the night for sure!
